Life as it Is

There hasn't been much going on here lately, except that I moved to the villa while all our "KayKay Zhai" went back to KK. And over there, theres some crappy internet that suddenly made me feel that lakeside wasn't so bad afterall.

However, somehow, last night, I had a weird dream.... Of my classmates, and me. It was sort of a flashback, or was it something else, I don't know.... dreams always seem a blur to me after I wake up. I only know that I dreamt about some of the times we went through as a class, the trips we enjoyed, and been through till the very end. The "yam cha"'s after badminton, after school, after exams, after dancing practice, after marching practice, after pom pom making......

The bak kut teh, the "chao fan dai mao", the "wo die", the KFCs, the YoYo's, the "Ren Ai"s, and all the KK food which can only be compared by none other than the "Chocolate Peanut Toast" here (so far the most delicious toast I've eaten).

And when I woke up, I thought of going home.... and I thought of the holidays I'll have during April, or June..... I thought that things could all be back the same way when I went back home...

But then, I thought again, that even if I went back.... .... the times, the moments.... they will never be like they were before....

Things will never be the same..... ever...

Sijil Pertandingan Meniru 2007 Results

Sorry for the late update in my blog.... cause I was caught up in 2 things...., 1st is the every suddenly changing course of uni life, received a couple of assignments and stuff I had to catch up with recently. And 2nd, is I had so many passwords I forgot which one was the one for my blog.... =.= (lame, I know, sry)

Anyhow, I got my Sijil Pertandingan Meniru results (SPM, mind you) somewhere around last week... For a student like me, I feel.... my results are quite okay..... though my parents think otherwise (they always do... anyway). Now... I'm already in Uni in fact, why the hell do I still need those results?

Well, seems like they still come in handy once in a while for other stuff, but anyway. I never expected getting ?? As for SPM, considering the minuscule amount of time put into studying, against the sleepless nights spent in front of the computer typing out the answers for Sejarah essay sections.... The results I got seemed pretty satisfactory for me, hehe.

Thanks to the help of my fellow friends also (or partners in crime, so to say), I managed to get my Chinese better than my Malay (which resulted in a "How come your Malay is worse than your Chinese??!?" from my mom). I also got a/an ?? for my Physics, as "expected" due to the tremendous amount of sources found in the Male toilet, and a/an ?? for Chemistry, also without doubt, is because of the help of the construction of our "Ai Xin Che Shuo" toilet. And another thing, we surely have to give thanks to the kind photocopy shop who made their outlet just outside the toilet, making it readily available, easily accessible, and with fast service (only with exam answer papers though).

Hmm, well, I've got to stop right here for now, due to the rumbling thunder in my stomach, and another lecture from one of the brainless lecturers coming up.

So long.

Bu Tiam lar......

**Warning: Due to the unavailability or proper words to represent some of the words I will be using, all word forms with ' 's around them are Not English words.**

Have ANY of you realised the difference between Sabahan, more exactly, KK people, or maybe its only TTSS student's Chinese (Mandarin), and any other people's Chinese. No need to compare with the REAL Chinese from China or any other foreign country, just take our closest state, Sarawak, to compare, or any other closest country, Singapore, for example, for comparison.

This topic became one of our canteen discussion topics a couple of days back, and it came to my senses that it was quite true.... if any of you realise it. Sabahan Chinese (or more precisely, TTSS chinese) is Nowhere else to be found in any part of the world. Read the following examples to see what I mean.

Some Examples:

1. Where are you going?
A: 'ni men qu na li?'
B: 'qu na li o?'

 2. Now what?
A: 'xian zai zhe me yang?'
B: 'Ui!, zhea ang o xian zai?'

3. Wait a while
A: 'deng yi xia'
B: 'dea aan' (if you speak this, you'll know what I mean)

4. What will you be doing afterwards?
A: 'ni deng yi xia zhuo she me?'
B: 'deaa zho mo?'

5. What are you here for?
A: 'ni lai zhe bian gan mar?'
B: 'ni lai gao ah!?'

6. Wow, that was so cool!!
A: 'Wuaa... zhe me li hai!!'
B: 'Wuaa... gou geng o...!!'

7. To express anger
A: 'shen qi yo!!'
B: 'Chiuu!..... Ngiet Sai!!'

8. To express inability to cope/catch up/many other situations
A: 'Wua... Bu neng lar..."
B: 'Ngai..... Bu tiam lar...."

9. The way people express admiration or comment on something "different"
A: 'Wah.... zhe me kuan ar?' (depending on situations)
B: 'Whoaa..... Jiang... Fon...!?'

10. I'm running out of ideas... so I hope you guys get what I mean
A: 'Wow... Hao shuài ya!!'
B: 'Wahh... Gou yeng o...!!'

11.
A: 'Zhen de zhe me li hai ya?'
B: 'Harh!? Jiang Da Det ah?' (or sometimes Da de)

12. To explain bending of an object (e.g., metal bar)
A: 'Na tiao tie zhen tiao wan xia qu le!'
B: 'Zhen tiao tie Kyuk chin liao o...'

These are just some of the most obvious ones.... I can't seem to think of any other at the moment, but if any of you have some time, just sit down somewhere with a couple of friends, talk, and listen to others talk....

You'll see the difference.

NO SPOONFEEDING!!

Hmm... the teachers in secondary school used to nag and nag at our work, how we perform, whether we talk in class, whether we do our homework, about our results, and everything. But in uni....

In orientation, I remember one of the teachers said: "Lecturers come in and Teach, their Job is to teach! But there are so MANY of you in one class, so we do not have the time to take care of each one of you. If you don't hand in your assignments, its YOUR marks, if you don't want to come to lectures, its YOUR choice. Most Lecturers might not even know your NAME!! But that doesn't mean they don't care!!"

Okay, quit all the bs, I know they care, they care about their money.... just like the way they have so much money that they can give out RM50's to students.

As the title says, NO SPOONFEEDING, is definitely applied in this Uni. For this week's Lab Sessions, the lecturers say "All you have to do is PREPARE"... yea, prepare.... but when you look at all those lab sheets and lecture notes on the internet, its like reading Tamil~!! In today's Lab, it was our first session for learning to operate the Unix Operating System....

And all the lecturer has to do is: "Okay, you can all refer to your lab sheet and start now...."..... What the F was that?? I've NEVER done programming, I've never touched a Unix comp, in the lab sheet are exercises like:

Translate the algorithm below into a Java main() method. Use the example at the end of lecture one as a guide.
INPUT integerOne and integerTwo
sum = integerOne + integerTwo
diff = | integerOne – integerTwo |
OUTPUT sum and diff

Well.... at least we managed to make it through the 1st lab session by copying and helping each other out in the lab.... (no help from the lecturer, pardon me, he just tells you the exact same thing thats written in the computer)

So, from now on, its all up to myself and yourselves to learn and continue to survive in uni.

When the Bored gets Bored

Since I've got nothing better to do, I might as well start.

Saturday, is the second more boring day in the week here in Miri, losing only to the next day, Sunday (from 2 weeks of experience here). Saturday is the day where students here at Curtin sit back in their hostel or house and rest and play... or think of what just happened in the past week (or is it just me).

Anyway, having just finished my first week in Uni, how does a uni differ compared to secondary schools? IMO, a uni is where you learn that only your mother/father/guardian is the only one who's gonna spoonfeed you no matter how old you are.

New stuff in Uni, 1st of all, the lecturers. Come to think of it, the Lecturers are like Pastors.... they stand in front at their "altar" and preach the gospel whether or NOT you're listening. Their job is to deliver. Deliver the gospel, and their done. OH!, and another thing they have loads of, is Money. I was in my First lecture for Engineering Foundations and you know what??.... The Lecturer offers RM50 for those who can answer his questions. And WHAT are his questions?? "Whose profile was written in a PINK coloured font?" (student profile on one of our curtin websites)...... omg...... who the hell is supposed to be able to answer that none other than the person herself.... And btw, not only did he give away ONE fifty dollar note..... but TWO!! He almost gave 3, but nobody could answer the last question and our period was over.

2nd, the Uni Timetable. Who on earth invented timetables anyway. Now I miss my good old teacher prepared timetables in primary schools. I remember those "Dumex" and "Bata" timetables we used to get when buying stuff from supermarkets that we used to write our schedule for primary school on.

But today, if I were to write my timetable on one of those.... I would need 20 of them per month. YES, the ever changing time table!! Since I started classes (1 week), the timetable has changed seven times. And guess when is the newest update? Yes! You guessed it right!! TODAY!

Anyhow, first let me praise the person who arranged this timetable, because, it is not only colourful, creative, and ingenius! It also consist of FIVE pages, one page per day, with TINY (Yes, THIS TINY) writings, stating the many many labs and rooms of the left, and the multicoloured subjects pasted all over the rest of the page. The First time it took me TWO WHOLE HOURS to finish discovering where and when my Lab tests, Tutorials and Lectures will be. Only to find out the next day that I missed my class....Anyone interested in exploring the timetables can proceed to curtin's website to have a look.

Next up is the Lakeside Accomodation which banned me from seeing my own face in my facebook profile. Hmm... what do I have to say about Lakeside. First off, they should put up a "Beware of Mosquitoes" sign out at the entrance. Second, they have modern cooking facilities such as sinks and electric stoves which you can't find anywhere in your homes nowadays, that ONLY takes 30 MINUTES to cook Instant Noodles!! No wonder they call them instant, it takes 2 hours to cook fried rice I think. We have Eight Shower rooms, 4 Rooms with heaters, 4 without, 2 of the heaters don't heat, and one of the heating heater that sprays like a water sprinkler, leaving only ONE fully functional shower room with a heater that heats. In MY room, I have an Aircon which has a "Multi Temperature Setting". 22 degrees Celcius on the Remote controller could mean you'll be having a warm night even without your blanket, but wake up to a freezing cold chiller room that we can keep our veggies safely in.

And at the same time, I thank them for providing us with internet which Bans us from sites including but not limited to: Facebook, megaupload, googlevideo, limewire, and also prevented me from playing my maple. Our internet is also limited to 150mb of Bandwith per day (if I knew this before hand, I might've considered staying elsewhere), which is equals to one episode of anime per day ^_^ And thanks to me reaching my bandwith limit also, as you guys can see, this post is dated 2nd March, Sunday, while it was actually prepared on Saturday....

Thats all for now, I have the most boring day of the week coming ahead of me. Hope each day gets better here as I learn new stuff everyday.

Genesis - The Beginning

Hi there everybody. Being new to blogging, but with more spare time than study time here in my new uni, I decided to start a blog.

Firstly, my apologies if theres any contradictions with anyone's opinions or ideas and everyone is subject to having their own opinions and ideas, so please understand. Secondly, I don't think I have a good sense of humour, so forgive me if my posts get dull....... anyway, you can always press Alt + F4 if they do bore you to death.

Secondly, an introduction to everyone who's gonna read this (since this is my first post)

In My Opinion (IMO) I'm just an ordinary guy that lives mostly the way everyone else does... except for some out of ordinary interests that I have maybe, like playing with fire and pyros. In front of people, I'm usually silent, I don't like to talk much, except when I'm with friends maybe. Even though I feel that I THINK a lot, but what actually comes out of my mouth is just a fraction of a millionth thoughts or opinions. BUT, I type a LOT! Things that I don't tell with my mouth, I say with my fingers, simple as that.

So here, you'll all basically be reading what I never mentioned out loud.

Thats all about me for now. Anything else and you'll have to find out yourselves from my posts.
