So long... popsicles sticks

Hmm..... we just finished our bridge testing on Friday.... and guess what, I don't wanna talk about it....

After putting through so much effort and time, there was a slight mistake in calculation in our bridge, and thanks to our bastart Mr. Goh, who tried to purposely ruin the bridge..... our bridge collapsed in the first stage....

Anyway, putting that aside, we still have about 2 more weeks before tests, and dozens of assignments ahead to hand in. But somehow, I could still find the time yesterday to watch "Narnia ~ Prince Caspian"

Before talking about the movie, I'll talk about Miri's Cinema. First of all, theres only ONE cinema in the whole of miri.... (I mean one cinema, e.g., Growball in KK), I don't know its name, yet, however.... But for the sake of it, I'll leave it to you guys to find out.

Well, the ticket for Narnia cost RM10, which was a pretty high price for a movie, usual ones are RM8, I wonder why this one was 10. Anyhow, have you guys ever had the experience being deaf?? (deaf = not having the ability to hear) Well, if you haven't, Miri's Cinema is one to go to. For RM10, they give you a movie without sound, only visual and subtitles, cool eh!? We sat through a great 15 minutes of the silent viewing, in addition to that, their air conditioners would well serve its purpose as heaters in cold countries....

For RM10, people were starting to complain and some said you could take your ticket to the counter to get a refund.... but just in time to save the day, the sound came back on...... So? Sit back and watch, or get your refund?? Well, my friends and I chose to sit back and finish the show....

Hmm... I guess for now, I've got to get back to typing a couple of reflections to hand in by tomorrow, so.... see ya later guys.

1 month's life

One month, can seem long, agonizing, and painful for some people.... for others it may be a time of fun and enjoyment, and the time seems to fly... unfortunately, mine was neither.

During the past month, my sleeping hours were unreal, my meals came whenever they wanted, and sometimes when they didn't come, I would have to put up to the disco having started in my stomach. 24 hours a day just wasn't enough. Time wasn't going toooo fast, BUT IT WASN'T SLOW EITHER! Sometimes I wish I had more time, sometimes I wish the time were faster, what the hell....

Just 2 weeks ago, me and my group completed a project of building a model bridge using popsicle sticks (tongue depressors actually, but since everybody was mislead by our annoying lecturer to call them popsicle sticks, I'll just stick to that). The bridge was magnificent, it was a triple truss bridge, meaning there were 3 main suppports, which we haven't seen anyone use, yet, and our bridge of merely 870 grams would be able to withhold a static load onto the middle of more than 15 kilograms!!!

But well, what do I have to say, one of the qualifications for the bridge was for it to weigh lower than 600 grams...(screw you Mr.Goh, our lecturer. All bridges in previous semesters didn't have such a problem being overweight). 270 grams of weight to throw away wasn't a big deal... IF ONLY our bridge wasn't so strong that it was impossible to take it apart.

Just the last Sunday, we had a meeting between us and the designing company. After analysis (by totally wrecking and experimenting on our 'failed' product), we had come up with a new design (within a couple of hours..., or minutes maybe). From 1pm till 1am... we stayed at the school cafeteria, looking at 2 kinds of glue, one type of string, and BOXES of popsicle sticks..... (now I know why people go mad when left alone in a room). We spent 12 hours designing, cutting, sawing, glueing tying, speed drying (drying the glue), and eating.... (our dinner of course). 12 hours and we completed 60% of our 2nd bridge, how cool is that!?

Monday was another day looking at popsicle sticks and epoxy (the glue name), we spent the whole night completing the bridge, and finally, its almost done...

Sadly but surely, this wasn't the end of my assignments.... I have reports due this week, more essays due next week, and tests to come.... not including the exams in 3 week's time yet.

However, what awaits me is a Looong Fuuuun and Filling June ~ July Holiday!!

Thats what I look forward to... and also what keeps me going...

Sorry if the content was a bit weird... I was kinda tired and was somehow at a lost of words.... and sorry I couldn't provide you guys with pics of the bridge, might show you some of the new one though....

No update

For Those of you who really DO read what I post here... Sorry because there hasn't been any recent update. Reason, because I'm kinda stuck lately with all kinds of stuff, since I just got back to my hometown, and now I'm busy getting ready to go back to miri. And on the other hand, not much has happened lately, so theres nothing much worth mentioning.

So, will update as soon as I get the mood and some interesting stuff to post about.

Sorry again for the wait.

Curtin Villa Massacre

"Kill or BE Killed..."

That was the very thought in my mind when I saw those infinite numbers of them storming towards us.... This was it... the fight for our lives... Kill or Be Killed....

Hmm, well, you might think it sounds like a quote from a movie or something, but THIS, is reality.... and is what brought their never ending numbers to the very end(at least for today).

Still wondering who they are?? Well, wonder no more, for I shall enlighten you now with my great expanse of knowledge...

Figure 1. Mosquito

Haha, sorry, maybe it wasn't what you were guessing.... But "Massacre" is definitely right.... you'll find out why in a couple of minutes.

To start off, these guys are pretty much one of the most common thing you can find in curtin, or miri to be exact. They come in a wide range of sizes, from transparent ones sticking to the wall, all the way up to 1 (one) Centimeter long ones filled with blood (suck from your very own body). And the worst part about them are..... they don't come in 1, or 2, even 3 of them..... but instead, they come in TENS and HUNDREDS...... okay, you may think that I'm exaggerating... but you'll be stupefied in a minute....

If you've reached a limit where theres nothing else to do, there ALWAYS is this last one thing to do. Mosquito killing. Their never ending stream of mosquito resource (adapted from Human resource) gives you more than enough to challenge yourself to kill as many as possible.... NOW, you can throw away those fancy First Person Shooter games like Rainbow Six, Call of Duty, Crisis, Counter-Strike, and start playing "Mossy Massacre".

To give you a clue of what the 'game' is like, here's some screenshots:

Figure 2. Bare hand killings of our deadly, cunning and vicious
mossy enemies.

Figure 3. A closer look at our freshly slapped mossies.

Figure 4. A top view of the massacre scene. Casualties on this day
soared up to numbers more than hundreds....
excluding corpes that have been squished, squashed,
flattened, or distorted beyond recognition.
(you can count them if you don't believe me, haha)
Figure 4. Kind worker ant friends clean up the mess you make,
which is the best part of this game, no mess, no fuss.

Besides using 'Bare-Hand' killing methods, the 'Mos-kill swatter', or 'Lure with own body' method to exterminate of your unwanted enemies.... There are many other ways of taking care of mossies.

Figure 5. Just METERS away from the 1st scene, another massacre happens,
but this time using high tech super-weapon, which can be obtained
after successfully achieving level 1's target: killing 100 mossies.
Figure 6. A closer look at the mossies killed by special weapons unlocked
by clearing previous stages. The weapon used in this stage is known as
"Ridsect - Power Blast".

Besides the "Ridsect - Power Blast" which takes out TONNES of mosquitoes within seconds of it's deployment, special defence weapons such as the "Mosiguard" and "Moss-away" are also available and can prevent you from taking too much damage from mossies. However, beware for damage from mossies: may result in constant itch for days and swelling around area of damage.

*Warning: Please do not try to copy any action in this game. Failure to follow instructions may lead to harmful or fatal injuries. I shall not be held responsible in any case whatsoever that has relation to 'Mossy Massacre'

Live to Eat or Eat to Live...?

Live to Eat or Eat to Live?, this question has been a part of my life for quite a long time....

Like most of you, I do enjoy eating.... in fact, sometimes, I enjoy it a LOT! especially sometimes when I'm in the mood, I like to go to those 'all-you-can-eat' buffets and load your plate with all kinds of multi-coloured, multi-textured, and multi-flavoured dishes..... For now, I think the food that I like the most is still western food... Ranging from Burgers~~ all the way to Steaks.....

I used to.... Live to Eat....

But lately, wondering "What to eat?" has become quite an issue in my daily life.... Of course, over here, theres the canteen where we can have our breakfast and Lunch, from Mondays till Saturdays... uninterrupted (I hope). But EVERY afternoon, the same question comes back to haunt us all..... "What do we eat tonight??"

This question has become so important that it's now getting asked earlier and earlier in the day.... sometimes even turning into the FIRST question we get when meeting each other.

And well, turns out that we always manage to find dinner.... for at least...... Monday till Friday.....

An example:

Figure 1, Our homecooked food...

At the very least, we've got pretty "good" cooks at cooking our own food, and we've got quite a variety in our menu (with raw, half-cooked, over-cooked, and even burnt), hehe...

Figure 2,
My Trainee wondering
whether the chicken
is cooked

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
However........ when Saturday and Sunday comes......................
Figure 3, My Weekend Survival Supplies
Thats........ what gets me through my weekends..... Eating to Live......
*******************************************************
Hmm..... now, I wonder what I'll be having for dinner tomorrow....
Life as it Is
There hasn't been much going on here lately, except that I moved to the villa while all our "KayKay Zhai" went back to KK. And over there, theres some crappy internet that suddenly made me feel that lakeside wasn't so bad afterall.
However, somehow, last night, I had a weird dream.... Of my classmates, and me. It was sort of a flashback, or was it something else, I don't know.... dreams always seem a blur to me after I wake up. I only know that I dreamt about some of the times we went through as a class, the trips we enjoyed, and been through till the very end. The "yam cha"'s after badminton, after school, after exams, after dancing practice, after marching practice, after pom pom making......
The bak kut teh, the "chao fan dai mao", the "wo die", the KFCs, the YoYo's, the "Ren Ai"s, and all the KK food which can only be compared by none other than the "Chocolate Peanut Toast" here (so far the most delicious toast I've eaten).
And when I woke up, I thought of going home.... and I thought of the holidays I'll have during April, or June..... I thought that things could all be back the same way when I went back home...
But then, I thought again, that even if I went back.... .... the times, the moments.... they will never be like they were before....
Things will never be the same..... ever...
